Guide to Our Care
Look here each month to learn something new about the health care services we provide
Radiology
A 64-slice CT scan creates more detailed images in a shorter amount of time—and we now have three such machines. They’re at LVH—Muhlenberg and LVH—Cedar Crest. “This technology gives us the ability to perform heart scans and is ideal for trauma situations because of the quicker results,” says radiology manager Barbara Lachimia.
Stroke Care
Lehigh Valley Hospital’s Primary Stroke Center is recertified by The Joint Commission. The center was the first in the area to be certified and is the regional leader in establishing an aggressive, systematic approach to stroke care, called Stroke Alert. This system, activated by emergency medical personnel transporting incoming patients with stroke brain emergencies, allows for a rapid triage process so patients have the best outcomes.
Heart Failure Care
Our Center for Advanced Heart Failure is the area’s only center under the medical direction of a heart failure specialist. The center’s nurses have special education in treating the complexities of the disease and preparing patients to manage their illness at home.
Children’s Cancer Care
We have the area’s only pediatric radiation oncologists who are specially educated to treat children with cancer. They treat children as young as 3 months and work closely with our pediatric oncologists—also the only two in the area—at the Pediatric Specialty Center at LVH-Muhlenberg.
